An Arid Land Paradise!
Wilkatana Station is a 500 square km working Sheep & Cattle station in South
Australia's Flinders & Outback Region.Wilkatana Station has the distinction of having all the traditional
elements you would expect from a Flinders & Outback experience plus it also has an ancient coastal aspect that
was a beach only around 1400 years ago. Due to its geographic location its easily & Safely accessible all year
round

The landscape varies from Mountains, Outback Red Desert Sands & Salt Lakes.

Geology

Wilkatana Station is one of the few areas in the Flinders Ranges & Outback where you can
actually see a series of the sedimentary layers making contact in the same spot. This 'Skyline Timeline' creates an awe inspiring view from the very Top of
Goat Hill.

Beda Volcanics
Wilkatana Station is only one of 3 known spots in the Flinders Ranges where you can see the
underlying volcanics that pre date the overlying sedimentary layers that create the Flinders Ranges.

The above picture shows how the sedimentary layer was folded before forming into rock creating a
massive anticline.

Mega Fauna

Thousands of years ago Mega Fauna roamed the outback, including giant Emu's, Wombats &
Kangaroo's were all present. The above photo is the remains of
Macropus ferragus an ancient Kangaroo found on Wilkatana station. Remants of Diprotodons (Giant Wobats) &
Genyoris (Giant Emu) can also be found.
